Art Teacher - SEN School (Aylesbury)
A welcoming and highly supportive specialist SEN school in Aylesbury is seeking a creative and resilient Art Teacher to join their team. The school caters for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social communication needs, and challenging behaviours linked to SEMH and additional learning needs.
This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity to work in a beautifully resourced site where staff are encouraged to think outside the canvas and help pupils develop both creatively and emotionally.
About the role
* Deliver engaging and accessible Art lessons across KS3-KS4 (and possibly KS2 pathways)
* Adapt the curriculum so every learner can find their own way to "draw out" success, regardless of starting point
* Use art as a tool for emotional regulation, communication, and engagement, helping pupils to "sketch out" their feelings in a safe and structured way
* Support pupils with autism, sensory needs, and behaviours that challenge
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and behaviour specialists
* Create a calm, structured environment where pupils can "paint a picture" of progress at their own pace
The school environment
* Specialist SEN provision with excellent facilities and creative learning spaces
* Strong leadership team and a supportive, therapeutic ethos
* Staff trained in autism support, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour strategies
* Focus on relationships, consistency, and helping learners "colour outside the lines" in a positive way
* Small class sizes with high adult support ratios
Salary and benefits
* MPS/UPS depending on experience
* Generous SEN allowance included
* Ongoing CPD in autism, behaviour support, and therapeutic approaches
* Supportive leadership and clear progression opportunities within SEN education
Ideal candidate
* Holds QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
* Experience or strong interest in SEN, particularly autism and SEMH
* Confident supporting challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
* Passionate about creative learning and alternative approaches to curriculum delivery
* Able to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners and help them "frame" their progress in a positive way
If you're ready to bring creativity, patience, and a steady hand to a role where every lesson can genuinely make a difference, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today or get in touch to find out more about this Art Teacher opportunity in Aylesbury
