Job Title: Assistant Planner

Location: Bedford

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a growing multidisciplinary consultancy in their search for an Assistant Planner to join their Bedford office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Planner to develop their career within a consultancy that works across a broad range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and infrastructure-related projects. The successful candidate will gain exposure to all stages of the planning process while working alongside experienced professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

THE ROLE

As an Assistant Planner, you will support the delivery of planning projects from initial site appraisal through to planning application submission and determination.

Working closely with senior planners and consultants, you will develop your technical planning knowledge, project management skills, and understanding of the wider development process, building a strong foundation for a successful planning career.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Supporting the preparation and submission of planning applications

* Assisting with site appraisals and development feasibility assessments

* Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation

* Conducting planning policy research and analysis

* Assisting with pre-application enquiries and planning appeals

* Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, and stakeholders

* Attending client meetings, site visits, and consultations

* Supporting senior colleagues across a range of development projects

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

* RTPI accredited degree or Master's in Town Planning or related discipline

* Ideally 1-3 years' planning experience within a consultancy or local authority environment

* Working towards MRTPI Chartership or keen to begin the process

* Strong understanding of the UK planning system

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Strong organisational and time management abilities

* Proactive, enthusiastic, and eager to develop professionally
