CNC Setter / Operator / Programmer (Turning)
Up to £19 per hour | Full-Time | Permanent Opportunity
Hours: Monday - Friday | 07:30 - 17:30
An established precision engineering environment is seeking a skilled CNC Setter / Operator / Programmer to join its high-performing machining team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable machinist with a strong turning background who is looking to work on modern equipment, develop programming ability, and take ownership of quality components from start to finish.
This role sits within a busy, well-invested machining facility where precision, consistency, and attention to detail are essential. You will be working on CNC lathes producing high-tolerance components for demanding applications, where standards are high and expectations even higher.
The Role
You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC turning machines, with the opportunity to carry out online programming or programme adjustments at the machine using Fanuc controls. For those with limited programming exposure, full training and support will be provided to build capability over time.
This is not a repetitive button-pushing role; it requires thinking machinists who understand tooling, set-ups, and how to get the best out of the machine.
Key Responsibilities
* Setting and operating CNC lathes to produce precision-engineered components
* Editing and/or creating programmes at the machine using Fanuc controls
* Interpreting complex engineering drawings and working to tight tolerances
* Selecting tooling, setting work-holding, and proving out first-off components
* Carrying out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
* Ensuring consistent quality and maintaining production efficiency
* Supporting continuous improvement in machining processes and set-up times
Machinery & Environment
* Hyundai WIA L600MA CNC Lathe
* Fanuc Control Systems
* Modern, well-maintained machining environment with a focus on quality output
About You
* Strong background in CNC turning / lathe machining is essential
* Confident Setter / Operator with the ability to work independently
* Programming experience desirable but not essential - training available
* Comfortable reading and interpreting technical engineering drawings
* Strong understanding of tolerances, materials, and machining principles
* A proactive, quality-driven approach with attention to detail
* Willingness to develop skills and take ownership of work
What's on Offer
* Competitive pay rate up to £19 per hour, dependent on experience
* Stable, full-time day shift with consistent hours
* Opportunity to develop programming skills and progress technically
* Exposure to modern CNC turning equipment and varied components
* Supportive environment focused on engineering quality and skill development
This is an excellent opportunity for a machinist who wants more than just machine operation - someone who takes pride in precision engineering, wants to develop their programming ability, and be part of a capable, quality-focused team.
