We are currently recruiting for an experienced Critical Electrical Shift Engineer to join a leading facilities management provider supporting a mission-critical data centre in Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-availability critical environment where reliability, resilience, and uptime are the priority. You’ll be joining a company that invests in its engineers through structured training, clear progression routes, and a management team focused on long-term development within the data centre sector.

Key Responsibilities:

- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance across critical infrastructure.

- Respond swiftly to electrical faults, alarms, and plant failures to maintain 24/7 uptime.

- Operate and maintain critical electrical systems including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, and HV/LV distribution systems.

- Perform electrical fault-finding on power distribution systems within live environments.

- Conduct switching operations (LV and HV where authorised).

- Monitor and operate Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).

- Carry out regular plant inspections, load checks, battery testing, and thermal imaging where required.

- Ensure all works are completed in line with permit-to-work systems, RAMS, and site compliance procedures.

- Support planned shutdowns, client change requests, and infrastructure upgrades.

Requirements:

- City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Engineering.

- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (essential).

- HV/LV Authorised Person or experience working within HV environments (desirable).

- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a critical environment (data centres, hospitals, banking, or similar high-availability sites preferred).

- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic capability.

- Experience working on UPS systems, generators, and critical power infrastructure.

- Calm, methodical approach with the ability to perform under pressure.
