Data Centre Technician (Critical Infrastructure / M&E) 📍 Docklands, London | 💼 Full-Time, Permanent | 💰 Competitive Salary + Benefits + Training

Overview We are seeking a Data Centre Technician to join a high-performing engineering team within a mission-critical data centre in Docklands, London.

This is a hands-on Electrical & Mechanical (M&E) role, ideal for candidates with experience in data centres, critical environments, facilities management, or building services.

You will play a key role in maintaining uptime, resilience, and operational performance across critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, HVAC, and BMS-controlled environments.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Incident Response

- Respond to critical alarms, faults, and system alerts within a live data centre environment

- Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) to ensure optimal performance

- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on electrical and mechanical systems

- Perform switching operations, start-up and shutdown procedures on critical plant (UPS, generators, HVAC)

- Follow change control procedures, SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs

- Support incident management, emergency response, and client communication

Maintenance & Reliability

- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with SLAs

- Maintain and optimise critical infrastructure systems for reliability and efficiency

- Monitor and respond to alarms via BMS (Building Management Systems) / EMS

- Conduct technical inspections, audits, and compliance checks

- Identify and support continuous improvement and energy efficiency initiatives

Compliance, Documentation & Safety

- Operate within a strict Permit to Work (PTW) system

- Review RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)

- Accurately log all work in CMMS / CAFM systems

- Produce technical reports on asset performance (UPS, generators, plant systems)

- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and statutory requirements

Team Collaboration & Development

- Work closely with Technical Managers, engineers, and shift teams

- Support and mentor junior engineers and apprentices

- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders

- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence

Skills & Experience Essential

- Electrical apprenticeship, NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent qualification

- Experience in data centres, mission-critical environments, facilities management, or building services

- Strong knowledge of:

- Electrical systems (LV/HV)

- UPS systems and standby generators

- HVAC / cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH preferred)

- Experience with BMS / EMS systems

- Proven fault finding and maintenance experience on critical infrastructure

- Strong understanding of Health & Safety and compliance procedures

- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a live environment

Desirable

- Experience within mission-critical / high-availability environments

- Knowledge of data centre operations and uptime requirements

- Familiarity with cGxP or regulated environments

- Experience with CMMS / CAFM systems
