Environmental Consultant - Sustainability & HRA (Graduate+ Experience)

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Salary: £26,000 - £40,000 depending on experience

Start: ASAP

A respected and growing environmental consultancy is seeking a capable and motivated Environmental Consultant to join their team in Cheltenham. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity ideal for candidates with a strong grounding in sustainability, environmental planning, and habitat protection.

The Role

You will be supporting the delivery of Sustainability Appraisals (SAs) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs) for a diverse portfolio of clients nationwide. Working within a small but busy team, you will contribute to work that balances the needs of development with environmental protection, enhancement, and sustainable policy-making.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and delivery of SA and HRA reports

*

Support the development of environmentally responsible planning and policy

*

Conduct background research, data analysis, and report writing

*

Work collaboratively with internal consultants and external stakeholders

*

Maintain high standards of professionalism and environmental advocacy

Requirements

*

A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Science, Ecology, Planning, Geography)

*

Minimum 2 years' experience in environmental assessment or planning

*

Good understanding of the UK environmental planning system, including NPPF and PPG guidance

*

Excellent written communication skills, especially in technical report writing

*

A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to work independently

*

A professional, personable manner with strong teamworking skills

Desirable

*

Membership or working towards membership of a professional body (e.g. RTPI, CIEEM, IEMA, LI, CIWEM)

*

A demonstrable interest in ecological, sustainability, or landscape issues
