Overview We are recruiting a Shift Leader – Engineering Services to oversee the delivery of maintenance and operations across a critical building services environment.

This role combines hands-on Electrical & Mechanical (M&E) expertise with team leadership, operational control, and compliance management. You will be responsible for maintaining 100% uptime, system reliability, and safety standards, while coordinating engineers, contractors, and Specialist Service Providers (SSPs).

This is an excellent opportunity for a Lead Engineer or Supervisor looking to step into a key leadership role within a high-performance, safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Engineering Control

- Maintain uptime and operational performance across all critical building systems

- Operate, monitor, and carry out fault finding on M&E systems

- Supervise Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance

- Allocate and manage tasks via CMMS / CAFM systems

- Maintain accurate asset registers, plant records, and maintenance documentation

- Inspect completed works prior to permit closure and job sign-off

- Deliver detailed shift handovers covering plant status, risks, isolations, and ongoing works

- Provide shift cover for sickness and holidays as required

Permit to Work (PTW) & Compliance

- Manage and control the Permit to Work (PTW) system and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)

- Review and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)

- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies

- Coordinate, issue, and close permits, escalating risks where necessary

- Conduct site inductions and maintain compliance records

- Monitor contractor performance against SLAs and safety standards

Specialist Contractor Management

- Coordinate and oversee all Specialist Service Providers (SSPs)

- Ensure all SOPs, RAMS, and PTWs are in place prior to work commencement

- Inspect and sign off completed works and documentation

- Escalate technical issues, performance concerns, and compliance risks

- Ensure contractors operate safely and in line with site procedures

Quality Assurance & Housekeeping

- Maintain QA standards for tools, PPE, ladders, and lifting equipment

- Ensure all inspection logs are accurate and audit-ready

- Monitor plant rooms and critical areas for cleanliness and operational integrity

- Maintain high standards across workshops, storage areas, and site facilities

Projects & Site Works

- Oversee small works, refurbishments, and site changes

- Liaise with contractors to ensure safe, compliant project delivery

- Support operational changes across front-of-house and shared spaces

Systems & Equipment Hands-on operational knowledge and fault finding across:

- Building Management Systems (BMS)

- Lighting control systems

- HVAC systems (AHUs, FCUs, chilled beams)

- Boilers and heating systems

- Motors (single & three-phase)

- UPS systems and critical power infrastructure

- Emergency lighting systems

- Generators and static switches

- Water treatment and refrigeration systems

Skills & Experience Essential

- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Building Services / Facilities Management

- City & Guilds 2360 (Parts 1 & 2) or equivalent

- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

- Strong technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems

- Proven experience leading or supervising engineering teams

- Strong understanding of PTW, RAMS, and compliance processes

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

- Good IT skills, including CMMS / CAFM systems and reporting tools

- Professional, reliable, and safety-focused approach

Desirable

- City & Guilds 2391 Test & Inspection

- Experience in critical environments (data centres, high-end commercial sites)

- Candidates with strong leadership potential may be considered with training provided
