The Opportunity

A leading Facilities Management provider is seeking an experienced HVAP Electrical Shift Lead to take a key position at a large, high-profile banking site in the City of London.

This is a critical environment where uptime is non-negotiable. The successful candidate will lead from the front on shift, overseeing electrical operations and ensuring all systems perform reliably under constant demand. It’s a role that combines technical authority, leadership, and accountability. This isn’t just another shift role, it offers the chance to work on serious infrastructure, in a setting where standards are high and expectations are clear.

What Sets This Role Apart

- A flagship banking site with complex, high-value infrastructure

- Clear shift leadership responsibility, not just task-based work

- Exposure to critical power systems, including HV/LV distribution

- A well-structured team with defined processes and strong support

- A role where decision-making and ownership are genuinely valued

Key Responsibilities

- Act as the lead engineer on shift, overseeing all electrical operations

- Operate as the site’s HV Authorised Person (HVAP), ensuring safe control of HV systems

- Carry out and supervise planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive works

- Manage and respond to critical incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to operations

- Monitor and maintain HV/LV systems, UPS, generators, switchgear, and associated plant

- Ensure all works are completed in line with safe systems of work and permit procedures

- Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers on shift

- Maintain accurate shift logs, reports, and compliance records

- Liaise with management, clients, and subcontractors where required

The Ideal Candidate

The organisation is looking for a confident and experienced electrical engineer who is comfortable taking the lead in a critical environment. The right candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with a calm, methodical approach.

Essential:

- Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ / C&G Level 3 or equivalent)

- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

- Proven experience operating as an HV Authorised Person (HVAP)

- Strong background in critical environments (banking, data centres, etc.)

- Experience working within a shift environment

- Excellent fault-finding and decision-making skills

Desirable:

- Previous experience as a Shift Lead or Supervisor

- Familiarity with BMS and control systems

- Experience managing or mentoring engineers on shift

What’s On Offer

- Highly competitive salary with shift allowance

- Regular overtime opportunities

- Long-term, stable contract within a flagship site

- Exposure to high-end critical infrastructure

- Structured environment with clear procedures and standards

- Opportunity to step into a leadership role with real responsibility

This is a role for engineers who want to operate at a higher level. It offers responsibility, technical challenge, and the chance to lead within a critical banking environment.
