Responsible to: Subject Leader of Science

Job Purpose

We are seeking an outstanding Subject Leader of Physics to lead the delivery of Physics across Key Stages 3 to 5. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced teacher to shape the Physics curriculum, raise achievement, and support the wider development of Science education in the school.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

* Deliver high-quality, engaging Physics lessons across KS3-KS5.

* Lead curriculum planning, assessment, and resource development.

* Use data to monitor progress and plan interventions for underachieving students.

* Promote a positive learning environment with high expectations for behaviour and outcomes.

* Ensure safeguarding and inclusivity are central to classroom practice.

Leadership

* Lead and support colleagues within the Physics subject area.

* Drive improvement in teaching and learning through effective use of data and CPD.

* Promote Physics as a subject at GCSE and A Level to maintain strong uptake.

* Oversee exam preparation and administration for Physics qualifications.

* Support budget planning and ensure appropriate resourcing and health and safety compliance.

KS4 & KS5 Focus

* Lead the development and delivery of the Physics curriculum at GCSE and A Level.

* Monitor teaching quality and student outcomes across exam groups.

* Support university applications and careers guidance for students pursuing Physics beyond school.

* Organise enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular activities related to Physics.

Professional Development and Expectations

* Participate in whole-school and departmental training and meetings.

* Engage in personal professional development and support the CPD of the Physics team.

* Maintain effective working relationships across the school and with external partners.

* Undertake any other duties relevant to the role, as directed by line managers or senior leadership, commensurate with the grade and scope of the role.
