Project Engineer / Civil Design Engineer (2-3 Years' Experience) Derby

Substations & BESS Projects | Progression into Project Management

We are supporting a growing consultancy in Derby in their search for a Project Engineer / Civil Design Engineer to join their expanding infrastructure and energy team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 2-3 years' experience who is looking to combine strong technical design skills with a clear pathway into Project Management, working on cutting-edge substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

The Project Engineer role;

You will be involved in the delivery of civil engineering packages on major energy infrastructure projects, supporting both design development and project coordination. The role offers a balanced mix of technical input and project-facing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities of this Project Engineer role;

* Assist in the design and delivery of civil works for substation and BESS projects

* Support the management of project programmes, budgets, and resources

* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders

* Contribute to project planning, reporting, and risk management

* Work within and support the administration of NEC Contracts

* Ensure timely and high-quality project delivery

About You

* 2-3 years' experience in civil engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment

* Experience in civil design, with exposure to project coordination or delivery

* Interest in developing a career in Project Management

* Understanding of, or experience working with, NEC Contracts

* Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills

* A proactive and collaborative approach

Desirable

* Experience working on energy, utilities, substation, or BESS projects

* Familiarity with UK infrastructure standards and design practices
