SEMH Teacher - Southampton - September Start

Academics are looking for an experienced SEMH Teacher who is available full-time from September to join a small, independent school in Southampton.

They are a specialist, therapeutic provision in Southampton registered for up to 20 students, providing outstanding education for girls aged 9 - 19 years with high anxiety, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs; Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC); Attachment Disorder; Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs); Learning Difficulties; Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and complex needs. They were last rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted and recognised as a Centre of Excellence with highly skilled staff who provide a safe, nurturing environment which ensures all pupils flourish and achieve exceptional outcomes.

They are looking for an SEMH Teacher who is happy to deliver a number of subjects including ICT, PSHE and Science. Experience of working with young people with SEN, specially challenging behaviours would be essential, whether that has been in an SEN or mainstream school. They will consider both primary and secondary trained teachers due to the varying learning levels.

You will be teaching very small classes, sometimes 1:1 and 2:1 so it is essential you are able to tailor your lessons to meet their individual needs.

The successful SEMH Teacher must be someone who is hugely empathetic and nurturing, is able to build strong, positive relationships and able to confidently manage challenging behaviours. You must be very resilient and have a good sense of humour to work in this environment as it is both challenging and rewarding.

Their students often arrive with a disrupted educational experience, school phobia, lengthy periods of time out of school or having struggled where their needs have not previously been met. Through staff expertise in Trauma Informed Practices and a nationally recognised unique programme of assessing and teaching Emotional Literacy, the school provides a rare opportunity for girls to feel the security needed to learn personally identified life-success skills. The combination of this approach, along with their team of specialist therapists and psychologists, their bespoke educational programmes and high staff-to-student ratio offers the girls the opportunity to begin to regain confidence in their own ability, build self-esteem and resilience and reignite enjoyment in learning through positive experiences

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate SEMH Teacher to work in a highly unique setting. So if you think this is the role for you and you live in Southampton, plaese apply!
