Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecologist, your key responsibilities will include:

* Leading and managing ecological surveys, assessments, and reports, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.

* Providing expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.

* Designing and implementing mitigation strategies to address ecological impacts.

* Managing and mentoring junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.

* Liaising with regulatory bodies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to secure necessary consents and approvals.

* Supporting business development activities, including preparing proposals and contributing to tenders.

* Staying up-to-date with industry trends, legislation, and emerging ecological practices.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

* A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

* Extensive experience in ecological consultancy or a similar field.

* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).

* Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and ecological survey methodologies.

* Proven experience in leading ecological assessments and delivering high-quality reports.

* Excellent project management and organisational skills.

* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.

* A full UK driving licence.

Day-to-Day

Your typical day as a Senior Ecologist may include:

* Conducting site visits to perform ecological surveys and assessments.

* Preparing detailed ecological reports and recommendations for clients.

* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations into project designs.

* Mentoring junior ecologists and reviewing their work to ensure quality and accuracy.
