Position:     Workshop Controller

Location:     Stoke

Hours:         Monday to Friday 6am-3.30pm 

Shift:           Days / 45 hrs

Pay:            £42,000

Contract:    Permanent

Workshop Controller position    

 

My client, a multi-site fleet maintenance company is looking to recruit an experienced Workshop Controller for their busy workshop in Stoke. This role is 100% off the tools

The Workshop Controller will be responsible for

- Track job progress, review job cards for accuracy, and ensure proper timekeeping for costing and invoicing

- Effectively allocate work across technicians to maximise workshop productivity and ensure timely, high-quality job completion

- Manage warranty and additional repair procedures, ensuring correct documentation and customer approvals

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) to maintain agreed service levels

- Build strong working relationships with both internal departments and external customers to ensure consistent service delivery

- Lead, support, and supervise workshop staff, addressing performance issues and escalating when necessary to the Regional Manager

- Ensure the workshop remains clean, safe, and compliant with Health & Safety regulations and company policies

- Support cost control efforts and contribute to overall financial performance and operational efficiency

- Oversee the care and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment, reporting any faults or required repairs

- Respond to and resolve customer complaints professionally and efficiently

- Promote continuous improvement and a culture of service excellence within the workshop

Experience required for the Workshop Controller

- Minimum 5 years’ experience in HGV and trailer maintenance

- At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role within a workshop or VMU environment

- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in HGV maintenance (IRTE qualifications also considered)

- Strong leadership and organisational abilities

- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

- Proactive and customer-focused approach

- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions
