Workshop Manager opportunity

Are you a skilled and motivated leader ready to take charge of busy workshop operations? We're looking for a dynamic Workshop Manager to oversee our contracts in North Devon and Somerset West & Taunton. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on delivering excellence across vehicle maintenance, compliance, customer satisfaction, and team performance.

Duties of the Workshop Manager

- Managing multi-skilled technicians across our main and satellite workshops.

- Building strong, proactive relationships with clients to ensure service expectations are met or exceeded.

- Ensuring all workshop activity complies with health & safety legislation and company policies.

- Overseeing all vehicle maintenance and repairs (internal and external), ensuring compliance with manufacturers' guidelines, contractual obligations, and legal standards.

- Driving performance in workshop KPIs, SLAs, service scheduling, quality control, and parts management.

- Controlling workshop systems, authorisations, and providing technical guidance to the team.

- Leading and developing your team through effective training, support, and performance management.

- Supporting other contracts and rental fleet maintenance as part of the wider SFS business.

- Using fleet management systems effectively for reporting, compliance, and cost control.

Experience/skills required for the Workshop Manager

- Recognised vehicle engineering qualification (e.g. City & Guilds) for HGVs

- National Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)

- Strong understanding and implementation of Health & Safety within workshop operations

- Track record in successfully managing vehicle workshops

- Professional, confident communicator and problem solver

- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills

- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and within a team

- Strong influencing and change management skills

Desireable 

- Experience with municipal vehicle maintenance

- HGV Category C licence

- IOSH Health & Safety qualification

- Membership of IRTE or similar industry body
